The city of Belton announced Oct. 2 that it has hired Dave Clements, a longtime municipal government leader, to become the city’s director of planning and building.
Clements will lead planning and development activity by managing projects as they move through the city application and council approval process, the city said in a news release.
In addition, Clements will oversee the building permit process from issuance to inspection. The city said the position is a newly created role.
Clements comes to Belton from Wichita, Kan., where he held the title of principal planner for the Wichita Sedgwick County Metropolitan Planning Department.
Previously, he served the city of Olathe as city planning manager for eight years.
The city of Belton said Clements will also is be tasked with beefing up code enforcement to help clean up pockets of blight throughout the city.
Grin & Bear It 5K raises nearly $7K for patients
The Cass Regional Medical Center Foundation hosted the eighth annual Grin & Bear It Run on Sept. 30. The event grossed nearly $7,000 for the Patient Assistance Fund, which is used to help Cass Regional patients in need with expenses such as transportation, medication and medical supplies.
The Grin & Bear It Run is held each year in memory of Cara Roberts. The event began with a moment of silence in her honor.
The overall male and female winners were Bill Allen of Overland Park and Hannah Jaloma of Belton, who finished with times of 18:24 and 22:47, respectively. Allen and Jaloma each received a commemorative stuffed bear, and medals were awarded to the top three finishers in each age group.
