Prosecutors charged a 23-year-old man in the Sept. 13 fatal shooting of another man at a south Kansas City gas station.
Dante E. Oliver of Kansas City faces second-degree murder charges in the slaying of Andrew Holmes, 23.
The shooting occurred outside the Troost Market in the 8000 block of Troost Avenue. Arriving officers found the victim sprawled near the gas pumps outside the convenience store. Holmes was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
According to court records, video surveillance showed a white Chevrolet Malibu parked at the gas pumps. A passenger, armed with a handgun, was seen getting out of the car and shooting the victim, who was in the driver’s seat of the car.
A woman who was coming to meet the victim pulled into the parking lot and witnessed the shooting.
The shooter then fled on foot. The witness followed the shooter in her car as he ran into a nearby neighborhood.
At some point, the shooter noticed that he is being followed and lifted his T-shirt to show the witness that he was armed.
Oliver later contacted detectives and turned himself in. Oliver said he was present at the scene and he was driving the white Malibu captured in the surveillance video. But he said someone else shot Holmes and he later picked up that person and took him home, according to court records.
Prosecutors request a $150,000 and said the shooting remains under investigation.
