FC DALLAS AT SPORTING KANSAS CITY

WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Children’s Mercy Park

TV/RADIO: Fox Sports KC Plus; 99.3 FM

ABOUT FC DALLAS (9-5-8, 35 points): After looking like the team to beat in the Western Conference early this season, FC Dallas has hit a summer drought. It is winless over its past three matches. The defense has taken a significant step backward as of late, posting only one shutout in 10 matches after recording five in the initial 12 games. Maxi Urruti leads the team with 11 goals.

ABOUT SPORTING KC (9-5-10, 37 points): The club owns a 21-match home unbeaten streak dating back to May 27, 2016. But Sporting KC settled for draws in four of its past five home matches, losing its margin atop the Western Conference standings in the process. Sporting KC sits in a three-way tie for first with Seattle and Houston.

BOTTOM LINE: The top five teams in the Western Conference are separated by only three points. For Sporting KC to distance itself from the pack, it will need to protect its home venue with victories over the season’s final two months.

PREDICTION: Sporting KC 2, FC Dallas 1
