Ollie’s Bargain Outlet — with a tagline of “good stuff cheap” — is planning two area stores.
The Harrisburg, Penn.-based company, which was founded in 1982, is one of the country’s largest retailers of brand name buyouts, closeouts and excess inventory. Items can include food, books, housewares, toys, electronics, domestics, clothing, furniture, health and beauty products, flooring, pet supplies and seasonal items.
It says it offers discounts of up to 70% and customers like it because they never know what they might find.
It will open a 30,000-square-foot-plus store in the Twin Creeks Center, at 8640 N. Madison Ave. in the Northland (the former Babies “R” Us store across from Metro North Crossing).
Another store is scheduled to open at 11610 W. 95th St., in Overland Park (across from Oak Park Mall) but no other details, including opening dates, were available.
It currently has 430 stores in 29 states, including Wichita and Hutchinson in Kansas.
“We’re headed west and Kansas City is a pretty big market and I think it will be a very good market,” said Jerry Altland, senior vice president of real estate for Ollie’s. “Everyone likes a bargain. I don’t care how much money you make. All we need is for you to come into the store once and we have you.”
