Is there a market for autographs of famous athletes when they were children?

If so, Delaine Head of Arlington, Texas may be in possession of one of the most coveted signatures.

On her Facebook page, Head shared an autograph she got from former Major League Baseball pitcher Pat Mahomes nearly two decades ago. At the time, he was with the Texas Rangers and Head also got his son to sign a card.

Yep, that’d be Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Head wrote: “So, in 2001, Pat Mahomes Sr. played with the Texas Rangers. The Rangers used to hold a picnic for the seasonal employees on the final home game and players would sign autographs for us. I remember getting Pat Sr. on a card and he had his son with him at the table and I asked for his autograph too on the back of the card. I may have Pat Mahomes II first ever autograph...”

“I volunteered with the Texas Rangers Women’s Club (TRWC), and it was always a fun day for us as club members to be able to get autographs at the seasonal employee picnic,” Head told The Star in a Facebook message. “I wish I had taken a picture of him with his Dad at the table they had set up for autographs. I remember being excited to get his dad’s autograph on the card provided by the Rangers and Patrick was standing next to his dad, practicing writing his name and I just thought I would ask him if he would to sign it too.

“He was a cute little thing, he would have been 6 yrs. old and I thought he might get a kick out of signing the back of his dad’s card. This would have been towards the end of September on or close to the Rangers last home game and the players were always so nice to take some time and do that for us.”

Mahomes revealed he began signing autographs before that day he met Head.

I’m not a huge football fan, but its always nice to see a fellow Texan doing well,: Head wrote. “I think when I read about Patrick purchasing a part of the Royals, something clicked and I remembered that he had signed that card for me so I went searching. I had saved all of those cards in a book and found it hidden away.”

It’s a fun and unique souvenir for Head. Here’s a photo of young Patrick playing catch before a Rangers game (via Twitter user Bill Jones):
